Fundraiser will assist wounded veteran

On Sept. 11, a fundraiser “Celebrate our Heroes” will be held at the Transit Valley Country Club in East Amherst to benefit Building Homes for Heroes, a nonprofit organization that supports the severely wounded and disabled veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan.

All proceeds will assist Army Spec. Brendan Marrocco. On Easter Sunday 2009, Marrocco was critically wounded when his vehicle tripped a roadside bomb. The blast tore off both of Marrocco’s arms and his left leg. His right leg was mangled beyond saving. His carotid artery was severed, his body badly burned and vision in his left eye was severely damaged. Marrocco is the first soldier to lose all four limbs in combat in Iraq or Afghanistan.

“Celebrate our Heroes” will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at Transit Valley Country Club, 8920 Transit Road, East Amherst.
