House Soccer — Division II

Brazil edges past USA, 4-3

Brazil found a way to squeeze past USA in a recently-held tight Clarence Soccer Club House Division II contest, 4-3.

Brazil came out to take the lead on a goal by Matt Naples, but USA came back with three goals by Melanie Jebens, Riley Fitzhenry and Hunter Catalano. Brazil responded when Caitlin Dzierba, who assisted the first goal, scored after splitting the defense and beating the goalie off a pass from Sebby Berberich.

Brendan Dolan scored after a corner kick by Berberich for his second assist, while Anthony Napoli then banged home a rebound for the winning goal.

Megan Brodziak played well defensively, while Carl Rolston was strong at midfield for Brazil.

In other recent Division II action:

England 4, Switzerland 0

Strong goaltending by Austin Oleszak, Jonathan Snitzer, Rebecca Stock and Elizabeth Klos was the key to England’s 4-0 victory over Switzerland.

Gabriel Grimaldi led the scoring with two goals off assists by Mason Sliwa and Stock, while Sliwa and Oleszak each added a goal, with assists by Klos and Snitzer. Tough defense by Megan Upham, Caitie Hanifin and Tori Hughes, as well as aggressive midfield play by Julia Fosdick, Matt Keough, Justin Miller and Gabrielle Willard, prevented Switzerland from taking many shots on goal and helped set up England’s scoring opportunities.
