House Soccer — Division III
The Clarence Soccer Club House Division III Tornadoes won their fourth in a row after sneaking past the Hail, 5-4.
Reed McMinn scored right off the start on a pass from Tyler Moran, while Morgan Berndt scored off a corner kick by Morgan Saraf. Tyler Moran had three goals, two of which were unassisted and the other off a pass from Matthew Schwertfeger.
Josh Probst made some nice saves during his quarter in goal, while Rachel Lamastra and Connor Garrett gave a good effort on both sides of the ball.
The Hail was led by Spencer Catalano’s three goals, while Caleb Lysek scored late to make it close. In other recent Division III action:
Tornadoes 10, Chill 1
The Chill scored first on an unassisted goal by Tyler Boyd and then found themselves unable to answer the Tornadoes’ relentless attack as they fell, 10-1.
The Chill, who kept things respectable at the end of the first quarter (1-1) despite playing with just one sub, saw the Tornadoes get two goals from Morgan Saraf, who also had two assists, while Tyler Moran, Devin Dzierba and Matthew Schwertfeger each had two goals and one assist. Reed McMinn and Josh Probst both scored once.
Maria Blujus had an assist, while strong games were played by Sydney Brownschidle, Noelle Grimm and Lauren Wright.
Surge 4, Twisters 3
The Surge squeaked by the Twisters, 4-3, behind four goals by Nick Accurso.
After falling behind by a 3-1 mark, the Surge clamped down with strong defensive play by Megan Nicholas, Ben Langlotz, Jillian Duve and Jared Johnson. Accurso and Patrick Wiesinger played well in goal in the second half, with Accurso making a game-saving stop on a breakaway with just minutes to go.
Sarah Wielgosz, Alexia Kouimanis, Alyssa Johnson, Jake Coon, Ryan Alessandra, and Nick and Chloe Vaillancourt all chipped in with several good passes.
Volcanos 8, Surge 3
The Surge suffered their first defeat of the season, 8-3, at the hands of the Volcanos.
Nick Accurso scored three goals, while Sarah Wielgosz, Alexia Kouimanis, Jake Coon, Alyssa Johnson and Nick Vaillancourt all had several scoring opportunities. Jillian Duve, Patrick Wiesinger, Jake Coon, Megan Nicholas, Chloe Vaillancourt and Jared Johnson all played well on defense.
Despite the score, Accurso, Wiesinger and Ryan Alessandra made several good saves in goal.
Wind 7, Typhoons 0
The Wind, using everyone on the team to keep the pressure on from start to finish, cruised to a 7-0 win over the Typhoons.
Ryan Ansuini netted his first two goals of the year, while Micalea Ryan scored three to put the Wind up 5-0. Jack Forrestal and Aleena Roland also scored their first goals of the year, while Alex Maccallini, Krista Wander, Maddy Hoestermann, Brenna Callahan, Nick Messuro, Emily Ensminger and Tori Notto all had near misses.
Tornadoes 5, Tidal Waves 2
The Tornadoes won their fifth in a row by beating the Tidal Waves, 5-2. Tyler Moran had the first three goals for the Tornadoes, two of which were unassisted and one of which came off a pass from Matthew Schwertfeger.
Matthew Binkowski scored the other two goals, one of which came off a good solo effort and the other off a long lead pass from Devin Dzierba.
Strong forward play from Lauren Wright, Maria Blujus, Josh Probst, Reed McMinn and Sydney Brownschidle helped the Tornadoes control play.
Eyob Grainge scored a goal for the Tidal Waves and set up Elise Dugan, who scored on the crossing pass, for the team’s other tally.
Wind 3, Lightning 1
The Wind came out firing against the Lightning and walked away from the contest with a 3-1 win.
Nicolas Maccallini scored to put the Wind up 1-0 in the second quarter, while Jack Forrestal had a first-half shutout with some key saves. Maccallini picked up a second goal in the second half, while Nick Messuro netted the third goal of the night a bit later.
Ryan Ansuini, Krista Wander, Madeline Hoestermann, Micaela Ryan and Emily Ensminger all had opportunities to put the ball in the net. Defensively, Tori Notto, Alex Maccallini and Brenna Callahan all kept the ball out of the Wind’s end.
Quakes 2, Chill 2
The Chill played well against the Quakes en route to posting a 2-2 tie. Goalies Kassidy Gaik and Brandon Sweeney held the game at 0-0 in the first half, but the Chill gained a 1-0 lead in the third off Tyler Boyd’s goal, assisted by Alyssa Kinney and Brandon Sweeney.
The Quakes answered back with a goal in the third quarter, but the Chill’s offense came on strong, with Hannah Rivett, Tyler Norton and Olivia Lucinski pushing to the net. Norton put one in the net in the fourth, but the Quakes answered back with a goal of their own to tie the game.
Cyclones 12, Flood 6
The Cyclones came out an extreme offensive whirlwind and powered to a 12-6 victory over the Flood.
The Cyclones’ offensive outburst was led by Bobby O’Brien, who blasted the Flood for five goals. Jake Bowman and Chris O’Brien each added three goals, while Frankie Norr also scored a goal to round out the Cyclones’ scoring.
The Cyclones got good passing from Miki Brauch, Madison Burr, Jacob Dunn and Jordan Fronczak, while Devon Richardson, Megan Rossi, Mya Showalter, Cassidy Toth and Georgia Wright played solid defense for the Cyclones.
Solid Cyclone goaltending was provided by Rossi, Fronczak and Richardson.
Cyclones 6, Meteors 5
The Meteors came up just a little short on the scoreboard when they took on the Cyclones in a defensive struggle.
Solid individual plays were made by Thersa Bienko, River Rienhardt, Derek Andrews, Zach Walek, Gabe Vitale, Maria Bienko, Allison Tobias and Allie Laws, with goals going to Bienko, Senan McCarthy (breakaway), Andrews, Tobias and Vitale (first of the season). Assisting on the goals were Rienhardt, Laws, Bienko and Walek (two).
Rienhardt made a couple of nice saves in net and Andrews blanked the Cyclones during his quarter in net to help the Meteors keep the score close.
