Voters merit credit for Weiss defeat

Giving credit for Joe Weiss’ defeat in the recent Clarence pri- maries to the fire companies (and/or Dan Snyder) is like giving Joe credit for fire company spending restraint. The fact is the election was about Mr. Weiss and his personal and political performance as councilman.

He proposed such things as eliminating the Harris Hill Fire Hall (too close to Main-Transit Fire Company) and fire company chiefs’ cars (unnecessary luxuries).

His performance in dealing with the public and his colleagues was usually more like that of a playground bully than an elected official of the people. Snyder and the firefighters may have helped, but the voters deserve the credit; they wanted a better alternative.
