BUDGET WORKSHOP— A number of stakeholders showed up to the Jan. 23 Clarence Central School District budget workshop.
The district is hosting another budget session on Monday, Feb. 6, and has moved its location from the Clarence High School lecture hall to the high school auditorium. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at 9625 Main St. The second draft of the budget will be reviewed. The budget will also be discussed during the Board of Education meeting that starts at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Harris Hill Elementary School, 4260 Harris Hill Road, Clarence.
ON THE CAMPUS — It’s that time of year again — the time when our mailboxes and email accounts start to fill up with campus announcements. Clarence residents are making the dean’s list and otherwise distinguishing themselves in their college careers.
We want to publish those announcements to let the community know about their accomplishments, but we have to receive them in order to do so.
Many colleges and universities submit the information directly to us, but parents or students are also welcome to do so. We run information only for Clarence and East Amherst residents, so if the student lives within the geographical boundaries of the Town of Clarence but has a Williamsville ZIP code, you may want to consider submitting it directly to a staff person. It can be hard to determine if the person lives in Clarence or Amherst without more information.
Those announcements can be sent to akimbriel@beenews.com or The Clarence Bee, 5564 Main St., Williamsville, NY 14221. If you have any questions, call 204-4921.
We publish campus information as soon as space allows.
HOW TO BEE HEARD — As regular readers will know, we publish a weekly Bee Heard column that features anonymous comments on various issues. The Bee Heards are submitted via a specific call line: 632-0390.
Sometimes people attempt to submit Bee Heards in other ways, perhaps through email, on paper or by calling a different number. However, we accept Bee Heards only through our Bee Heard line, so if you’ve submitted a Bee Heard through some other means, resubmit it by calling 632-0390 if you want your comment to be published.
TASTE TESTER — I had the opportunity to serve as one of the judges for the Clarence Lions Club’s Chili/Chowder Cook Off, which is held during the Clarence Winterfest.
I got to experience nine great flavors of chowder, and while I had to select my top three favorites, in conjunction with the other judges, I do have to say that each option was delicious. Congratulations to all who participated.

GET YOUR FISH — The observance of Lent begins Feb. 22, and with it comes numerous fish fry dinners sponsored by churches and community groups. The Bee will publish a list of these Lenten fish dinners, which can be kept for reference in the weeks ahead, in the Feb. 15 and 16 editions. We will not publish fish fry announcements after that week.
The deadline to submit fish fry listings will be 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10. Paid advertisements for these events will be accepted at any time. For advertising information, call 204-4937.
