Man charged in attempted theft from Walmart
An Amherst man has been arrested on multiple charges following a complaint from a Walmart store that the subject was allegedly cutting open packages of merchandise and trying to steal items by attempting to hide them on his person.
Deputies Chris Ginnane and Scott Kuhlmey of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office responded on Sunday to the Walmart on Transit Road in the Town of Clarence and apprehended Jay T. Kenneth, 27.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, further investigation and review of store videotape clearly showed Kenneth’s actions. The Sheriff’s Office also said Kenneth had some prescription medication on his person that did not belong to him.
Kenneth was arrested and subsequently charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, attempted petit larceny and possessing a controlled substance outside an original container.
He was taken to the Erie County Holding Center and held pending his arraignment in the Town of Clarence Court.
