Robert Alan Armstrong, coach, engineer
Armstrong Robert Alan Armstrong, 50, of Clarence Center, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012.
Mr. Armstrong was born in Ithaca, and attended Ithaca High School and Northwood Prep School and received a master’s degree from Clarkson University in civil and environmental engineering, where he was a captain and all-American hockey player.
He tried out for the Montreal Canadiens in 1984.
Mr Armstrong was a professional engineer for Stearns and Wheeler GHD and a member of various state and national professional engineering associations.
He was also the assistant coach of Clarence High School hockey, Southtowns Knights travel baseball and New Era travel baseball.
He was the head coach of the Buffalo Regals, the Wheatfield Blades, Clarence travel baseball, and head coach as well as league coordinator for Clarence girls softball.
Mr. Armstrong is survived by his wife, Joanne (nee Dryuff); two sons, David and Mark; one daughter, Lauren; parents, Donald and Ann; four brothers, Richard, Donald, James and Steven; and one sister, Karen Gorsky.
Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Amigone Funeral Home, 8440 Main St. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. from the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 4375 Harris Hill Road.
