Independent Health named one of country’s highest rated health insurance plans

Independent Health is again one of the highest-rated health insurance plans in the nation, according to the 2017-2018 Health Insurance Plan Ratings by the National Committee for Quality Assurance, a private organization dedicated to improving health care quality.

As part of this year’s ratings, the NCQA reviewed more than 1,000 health plans and rated their products based on their combined Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set, Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, and NCQA Accreditation scores, a spokesperson from Independent Health said.

Independent Health’s HMO/POS (commercial/private) products received a 4.5 out of 5 rating for 2017-18, while its Medicare HMO and PPO products both received a 4-out-of-5 rating.

Independent Health scored particularly well in measures that focused on customer satisfaction and prevention, the organization said. The company earned the second highest score in the country for “Getting Needed Care,” which measures how easily members get appointments with specialists and receive preventive care, tests and treatments they needed through their health plan. Nationally, Independent Health finished in the top 90th percentile in 14 HEDIS categories.

In addition, Independent Health has been awarded the NCQA’s highest accreditation status, “Excellent,” for its Commercial HMO/POS line of business. “Excellent” accreditation is granted only to those health plans that exhibit levels of service and clinical quality that meet or exceed NCQA’s rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement, the organization said.

“We are very proud that Independent Health continues to be recognized as one of the highest-rated health plans in the United States. The recognition we’ve received from NCQA is objective proof that our programs and initiatives to achieve the triple aim of better health, better care and lower costs for everyone are truly working,”

Dr. Michael W. Cropp, president and CEO of Independent Health, said.

“The NCQA ratings are a valuable tool because they help health plans evaluate whether their members are receiving the high-quality care and service they deserve,” Cropp said. “Independent Health has performed extremely well in these ratings over the years due in large part to the strong relationships we have built with our provider partners, as well as our unwavering commitment to provide exceptional customer service.”
