Photo by Jim Smerecak Hoping to provide more convenience than competition in the mobile device repair market, Clarence resident Andrew Taverna is taking his services directly to customers through TavTek, an enterprise that offers to pick up devices and deliver them fixed.

Taverna, who works as an information technology support specialist by day in Depew, said he opened the side business this year after friends and family said they were wishing for a repair service that came directly to their homes and workplaces to fix phones and computers.

He knew that was a need he could meet.

“I actually had a friend who brought up that it would be nice if the repair shops came to them, and that kind of inspired me,” he said.

Taverna, who launched TavTek in June and has committed to traveling 35 miles to customers from his home on Shimerville Road, explained that his enterprise is aimed at working professionals who can’t immediately get their broken devices to the repair shops of national chains.

He hopes to reach his customers at work and charge them less using higher quality parts such as smartphone screens.

To repair the glass and screen of an iPhone 6, Taverna charges about $100, according to the TavTek website.

In addition to glass and screen repairs, Taverna offers battery and charging port replacement for a variety of iPhone and iPad models, as well as Android phones and tablets.

He also offers computer repairs including hard drive replacement, screen repairs and virus removal, as well as upgrades to hard drives, operating systems and RAM.

Computer repair costs listed on TavTek’s website range from about $70 to $120.
