Rifle team members compete at national Junior Olympic qualifier

Clarence senior Matt Kirk won the men’s match at the 2018 National Junior Olympic Rifle and Pistol program qualifier, held Jan. 20-21 at the Jamestown Rifle Club.

Kirk bested a field of seven shooters with a score of 562 of 600 and is now in the running for an invitation to the National Championships, which will be held in April at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Kirk, meanwhile, won the women’s match for the second consecutive year, outshooting a field of six with a score of 378 out of 400. She is in the top 10 junior women air rifle shooters in the state and is hoping for an invitation to the championships as well.

Clarence junior Emily Gay took second after posting a 365 out of 400 in the women’s division, while sophomore Trey Dziabo was second overall in the men’s division with a 541 out of 600.
