Clarence man continues ‘love of concrete’

Right out of high school, Steve Federowicz joined Leona Construction where he mainly did commercial work for more than eight years. After that, he started his own construction company, For the Love of Concrete, Inc., which he has owned for the last three years.

Federowicz said he assists with snowplowing, residential work with patios, sidewalks, driveways, stairs and both stamped and colored concrete. The Clarence business offers free estimates.

“I started out mainly working with small steps and walkways, but over the course of time, I started to get projects on people’s driveways, patios, fire pits, garage floors and more,” Federowicz said. “Depending on the type of project, the prep work can be quite a lot, but I really enjoy meeting with people and figuring out their vision for what they want accomplished.”

Federowicz works year round but admits that the winter months are slower than the spring, and summer especially.

“It’s a lot of hard work, but construction really is my calling, and I enjoy what I do so much,” Federowicz said.

When he started For the Love of Concrete in 2015, Federowicz normally got somewhere between 10 and 15 assignments per year. That workload has doubled in just three years.

According to Federowicz, the average project takes around a week or two weeks to finish depending on what he is working on. He talked about his favorite part of the job and why he got into construction work.

“I really enjoy the pouring process,” Federowicz said. “It’s such an adrenaline rush, and it’s cool to know that you are the one calling the shots. Along with that, I think customer satisfaction is very important. Seeing the look on the homeowner’s face when the project is over is such a rewarding feeling for me.”
