Hollow Association looking ahead to 2013 projects

I t’s a new year, and there will hopefully be some new activities sponsored by the Clarence Hollow Association.

However, some of our efforts will continue. One of them is the purchasing of new holiday lights. I would like to let you all know the status of our Skylines that we purchased but were unable to hang.

We still have them, and I guarantee they will go up next year. We could not get permission to hang them on the NYSEG poles, so we have a new angle.

Thanks to our Erie County legislator, Ed Rath, the Town of Clarence and NYSEG, we will be meeting shortly with them to work on the installation of separate poles that will be used for the hanging of the lights and also offer to any other organization that wants to hang a banner promoting an event.

Thus, this will turn into a great project that will benefit other community organizations and events. Sometimes good comes out of roadblocks that are put in our way.

The mural that will be installed on the side of the Clarence Bistro and Brew is progressing. We are almost ready to release the design and will be looking for donations of money and in-kind support to complete the project. As a kick-start, I just submitted a grant request to the NYS Urban Council for $3,000.

It is a matching grant, so we have to raise $3,000 to match it. If you are an art lover or just believe this will be a nice addition to the Hollow, you can send a donation in any amount to help match our request.

We plan on completing it by May 1 and having an unveiling ceremony in the spring. All who donate will be invited to attend. Make your check payable to: Clarence Hollow Association, P.O. Box 422, Clarence, NY, and mark “for the mural” on the check.

In an effort to reach out to our members, we will be having quarterly membership meetings. They will be held in the restaurants of our four board members on the following dates: March 25, May 20, Sept. 23 and Dec. 16.

They will be Monday evenings and give everyone a chance to help us or give suggestions to help the Hollow. Of course, there will be refreshments provided by our board member restaurants.

Not to worry, there will be no contest to see who can provide the best refreshments. Mark your calendars, and as time grows nearer, you will hear more.

I would also like to welcome our new board member, Kathy

Schmidt. Kathy lives in the

Hollow and helped us with the

Holiday in the Hollow event.

It was after that when she

“caught the bug” to become really involved. I look forward to her help and advice.
