Seven-week fall fest returns to Great Pumpkin Farm

The largest fall family event in Western New York, the Great Pumpkin Farm Fall Festival, opened on Sept. 14 and continues through Oct. 31.

It offers the popular activities of past years, including the OINKtoberfest BBQ Cook-off this weekend from Sept. 20 through the 22.

Sept. 28 and 29 will feature the hands-free World Pumpkin Pie Eating Championship, where professional eaters try for the world record of eating pumpkin pie. The fourth annual Miss Pumpkin Pie U.S.A. talent contest will also be held, and a new event, pig racing, has been added. A funny face pumpkin drawing contest is being held as well.

On Oct. 5 and 6, the world pumpkin weigh-off will take place, and The Great Pumpkin Farm will pay $10,000 for a world record pumpkin that is brought in for the weigh-off. The popular Mutt-allica dog sport and pony show will also be held.

The Pumpkin Farm Olympics take center stage on Oct. 12, 13 and 14. Oct. 14 is also the date for the Giant Pumpkin Drop.

The trebuchet pumpkin catapult contest takes place the following weekend on Oct. 19 and 20.

The final weekend, Oct. 26 and 27, includes the corn maze, hay rides, amusement rides, face painting, magic, juggling and the “Cackling Hen Revue.”

The Pumpkin Palace and Pumpkin Store will have lots of pumpkins, along with apples, cider, corn stalks, hay bales and Indian corn, and the Haunted House & Museum and the “Boo” Barn will offer Halloween activities.

Festival hours are 10 a.m. to dusk daily. There is a special admission price of $5 during weekend celebrations. Discount tickets are available at Wegmans.

The Great Pumpkin Farm is located at 11199 Main St., and online at www.GreatPumpkinFarm.com.
