Chamber’s Golf Classic set for Monday at Brookfield

The Clarence Chamber of Commerce is all set to tee off at its annual Golf Classic on Monday, Sept. 15, at Brookfield Country Club, 5120 Shimerville Road. Registration and lunch begin at 11 a.m. with a shotgun scramble format starting at 12:30 p.m.

An hourlong open bar with hors d’oeuvres will take place at the conclusion of golf and be followed by a steak dinner.

This year, the Chamber will present its second annual Sportsman of the Year Award to the family of Buffalo Sabre Rick Martin, who passed away in 2011. Each year, a committee of about 17 people chooses a local sports figure to honor. Last year, former Sabres coach Lindy Ruff received the inaugural award.

“It won’t always be a hockey player chosen, but it just so happens that last year was one also,” Sirianni said. “You never know who people are going to vote for. [Martin] was a great example this is what happens when you’re good at a sport and you’re able to share your knowledge with youth, and he did.”

A high-end raffle will also take place at the event. Single golfers can register for $190, or a foursome can register for $720.

Business sponsorships are also still being accepted. Call the Chamber at 631-3888 for more information or visit www.clarencechamber.org.
