Bee Heard

.During the last town board work session, a request was made to transfer funds to the town supervisor’s expense and travel account to cover an overrun in his budget. According to the town website, the supervisor has $2,000 to spend on expense and travel. I’d like to know what expenses our $2,000 is going to.

.Regarding the canceled parent/ teacher conferences, the storm was Nov. 18-21. The conferences were Dec. 4 and 5, when all staff were back to work. They canceled the conferences to give the district more school days, which makes sense, but it is sad because that’s the only way parents can communicate with teachers.

.I was disappointed at columnist David Sherman’s put-down comment about the inaugural address of Lyndon Johnson; he said nothing about what a great man Johnson was. Johnson signed highly important civil rights legislation, the Older Americans Act which gave us Meal-on-Wheels and transportation for seniors, and Medicare and Medicaid which affect millions of people. These pieces of legislation were remarkable, and to be dismissed as one of the least important people in the past 50 years is really a very biased review, and I totally disagree.
