Barbara A. Guida, former Clarence councilwoman

Guida Guida Barbara A. Guida (nee Sciandra), a former member of the Clarence Town Board, died Thursday, March 26, 2015. She was 67.

Mrs. Guida, whose family owned John & Mary’s restaurants, worked in the family business before serving on the Town Board. As a councilwoman, she worked to develop the town website, adopt the Gold Star veterans tax exemption and establish bike paths.

“She was a big asset to the town and my administration,” said Dan Herberger, former Clarence town supervisor. “She had a different personality you could almost call stubborn. She wanted things done her way and done right, and that’s not a bad leadership trait.”

Mrs. Guida became the first woman president of the Rotary Club of Clarence. She also served two terms as assistant district governor for Rotary District 7090, which included Western New York and Southern Ontario. Her commitment to the organization was recognized with a Paul Harris Fellow award.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; two sons, Robert and John; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, March 30, at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Arrangements were made by the Amigone Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. Guida’s name to the American Cancer Society.
