District UPK program anticipates openings

The Clarence School District anticipates continued state funding for its 2016-17 Universal Prekindergarten program. The student must be a Clarence School District resident. Eligibility requirements for the upcoming school year include that the student’s date of birth must fall on or between Dec. 2, 2012, and Dec. 1, 2013. A lottery process is used to randomly select students. The district will host an information session at 6 p.m. Monday, March 6, at the Clarence High School lecture hall, 9625 Main St. The lottery date for placement is April 3.

Harris Hill UMC to hold soup contest

The Harris Hill United Methodist Church, 8495 Main St., Williamsville, will hold a “Chili Cook-off and Soup Showdown” from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5 per person with a family maximum of $20. Ticket price includes chili/soup, cornbread and a beverage. Call the church office at 632-4688 or email hhumc@roadrunner.com by Feb. 18.
