BUNDLE UP — If you want to help keep Buffalo families a little warmer this season, make sure you stop by Jericho Road Community Health Center’s annual winter outerwear distribution next week.

Bundle Up Buffalo will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 21, at Our Lady of Hope, 18 Greenwood Place. The goal of the event is to provide new or gently used winter coats, mittens and gloves, scarves, hats, boots and blankets to families in Buffalo who might need them.

Sweaters, sweatshirts, pants, sneakers or undergarments will not be collected.

According to the Jericho Road Community Health Center, the need is particularly great for the resettled refugee communities in Buffalo who often come from much warmer climates and might not be prepared for Western New York’s winters.

The first Bundle Up Buffalo was held in 2010 and was organized by then-AmeriCorps member Krista Schwartzott, who saw the need for outerwear among the refugee clients of the Hope Refugee Drop-In Center.

Outerwear donation drop-offs will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 16-20, at the Loretto Ministry Center, 301 14th St. in Buffalo.

Volunteers are needed for sorting and organizing donations from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, and for assisting with distribution from 8:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21.

To volunteer at the event, contact Mary Schaefer at 348-3000, ext. 405, or mary.schaefer@jrchc.org. Individuals also can sign up online at www.jrchc.org/help/events/.

Monetary donations are also accepted to purchase items of greatest need.

ELECTION POLICY — No letters to the editor or political briefs will be published about any Town Board or other local candidates after Oct. 25. The deadline for those editions is Friday, Oct. 20.

CLARENCE HERITAGE GHOSTS — Tim Shaw, an ordained minister, psychic medium and paranormal investigator, will talk on local haunted Clarence history and ghost methodology at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Clarence Town Park Club House, 10405 Main St.

Groups will break away within the Club House with “ghost hunt specialists” who will conduct ghost hunt experiments according to their methodology of spiritual communication.

The fundraising event is presented by Clarence Town Heritage, Dragonfly Studio & Salon, and Buffalosmark to further support preservation efforts in the town. The price of admission is $20 per person, and seating is limited. Tickets are available at Dragonfly Studio & Salon, 8290 Main St., Clarence.
