E. Peter Forrestel II to be recognized as chamber’s 2018 Citizen of the Year

E. Peter Forrestel II E. Peter Forrestel II The Bee will profile the 2018 award recipients recognized by the Clarence Chamber of Commerce.

The awards are given for “Citizen, Business, Organization and Lifetime Achiever” who reside, work or volunteer in the Town of Clarence.

The criterion for selection of the individuals and business is an unselfish devotion to improving the quality of life in the Clarence community. The chamber’s annual awards dinner will be held this year on March 1 at Samuel’s Grande Manor.

The chamber will present the 2018 Citizen of the Year award to E. Peter Forrestel II.

Forrestel joined Bank of Akron in 1976 and previously served as bookkeeper, teller, data processing manager, auditor, vice president, senior vice president and executive vice president. His diverse experience gave him the understanding of how all aspects of operations interact and led to his being elected president of Bank of Akron in 1994, a position he held until his retirement in June 2017.

Forrestel holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan where he went on to earn his master’s degree in biology.

He serves on the board of directors for Bank of Akron and has served on the Board of Education for both the Akron Central School District and Erie 1 BOCES. He has been a Village of Akron trustee since 1997.

Forrestel has served on the board of directors of the New York State Banking Department and the Advisory Board of its successor, the Department of Financial Services. He also has served as the director of the Independent Bankers Association of New York State and is a past group one chairman for the New York Bankers Association.

Other community services include the Akron Lions Club, Akron-Newstead Rotary Club, Rails-to-Trails project coordinator and Newstead historical trustee.
