April showers bring May flowers, which make for beautiful gardens in July. In the spirit of summer, the Tours of Open Gardens will showcase various vibrant gardens throughout Buffalo Niagara on Thursdays and Fridays in July.

Already in its seventh year, the Tours of Open Gardens will display 12 groupings of gardens, many of which do not appear on other garden tours.

“The gardens are beautiful, there are no crowds, you can visit at a relaxed pace, and you’ll find the gardeners to be gregarious and helpful if you have questions,” said Jim Charier, vice president and marketing committee chair of Gardens Buffalo Niagara.

Many of the gardens have been featured in local newspapers, television and popular magazines such as Better Homes & Gardens, Horticulture, Fine Gardening, Garden Gate and This Old House.

Additionally, the Tours of Open Gardens is welcoming the newly added Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Graycliff overlooking Lake Erie in Derby to the tours.

The dates of the event are as followed: Thursdays and Fridays, July 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27. The hours vary, but generally fall between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

For the owners of the gardens, it is not only the beauty of the flowers that makes their gardens unique, but also their own individual personality and creativity.

“For our Open Gardens, what stands out every year for me is the creativity and individuality of each garden. There are no cookie cutter gardens on this tour. And the gardeners could not be more friendly and generous with their time,” said Charier.

To experience this unique and relaxing tour, one must only purchase a Tours of Open Gardens and Garden Events Guide booklet for a $5 donation at select garden centers.

The complete list of outlets is featured at www.GardensBuffaloNiagara.com, or receive a booklet by mail for a $20 donation.
